Crombie Lockwood feature in Air New Zealand’s in-flight magazine

The trust has featured very well in a recent Air New Zealand in-flight magazine. The article describes the new relationship with Whangarei Insurance brokers Crombie Lockwood and our trust, particularly focusing on how important it is for businesses to give back to the environment and community. Crombie Lockwood have now confirmed that they will commit to an ongoing volunteering programme with us into the future.

BHCT rangers and local volunteers recently sprayed the Kikuyu at two sites for the 2015 winter plantings. The first site was an extension above last winter’s planting at Homebay and the other site is the bed and banks of the stream close to the entrance at Urquhart Bay. Hopefully we will receive the necessary winter rains required to give the native plants the great start they need. Each year the Manuka, Kanuka, Cabbage Tree and Flax (Harakeke) seeds are eco sourced (sourced from plants on the reserve) and sent to the wonderful team at Kerikeri Nursery and tenderly developed into the seedlings we plant at Bream Head. This sourcing of seed, delivery of seed and pickup of seedlings to/from Kerikeri is all organised and implemented by the wonderful Wendy Holland in her own personal time. DOC supply the vehicles, trailers and fuel to pick the plants up. Thank you so very much to Wendy for her continued management of this project, it’s a big task and we are very grateful to her.
