Are you enjoying the lack of Vespular wasps at Bream Head/Te Whara reserve this summer? Well that's all thanks to our second use of the awesome Vespex wasp toxin. We last used this control method when the reserve was teaming wirh wasps in 2017, and just like then we have now reduced the nasties to barely unnoticeable levels. This is great for you on your walk, for us working in the ngahere, and most importantly for the insects that these blighters disseminate (insects are a vital food source for our native fauna, especially in dry summers)! This year we had some extra support from locally owned company CamperCo and have been able to add the Busby Head, Urquharts and Ocean Beach carpark to our network. Thanks to Nick Chaves and Haidee Heffernan of Parua Bay for their donation these areas will have far fewer wasps for visitors to contend with during their time at the reserve - what legends huh?! Nick and Haidee donated through the national Wasp Wipeout programme, check it out online and donate to your local area if you are keen. The photo is of one of the wasp toxin stations at Busby Head.
