Bream Head Reserve from Manaia

Rangers Report – February 2012

Our Ranger writes the report each month to keep you up to date with what is happening in and around the Reserve. It is extracted from the Ranger’s daily diary and provides an interesting insight into the work carried out to support New Zealand’s flora and fauna.

Looking through the diary it has been a busy time since my last report in November. We managed to get a couple of weeks off for Christmas/New Year and had a very nice break with lots of family and friends visiting.

We also had an opportunity to help with some very interesting work on the local offshore islands. Cathy and I both went out to Taranga (Hen Island) before Christmas assisting a PhD student with her continuing tuatara study and also working with Ngatiwai field staff. While there we were also able to GPS and report on some of the known grey-faced petrel breeding sites to help an Otago master’s student set up her research project.
