Operational Summary
Key points:
- The first step in our upcoming 1080 operation is complete — all ratabate has been removed from stations across the reserve.
- During January, 45 DOC200 double sets were installed within the Ocean Beach Recreation Reserve to assist with stoat control — results for this new trapping line are included in this report.
- At the start of February, Kees went full time and took over all of David's traplines.
- During February, Aki Tai Here completed a few big days of moth plant control.
- In late February, a small group of rangers, trustees, and volunteers completed a 3-night stay on Lady Alice Island (Mauimua) to clear existing tracks that provide access for researchers, rangers, and weeding teams.
- Nursery volunteers have grown over 7000 budding seedlings this year from locally eco-sourced seed.
- The nursery has had groups visiting from Whangārei Heads School and Whangārei Girls' High School, as well as a big group of DOC volunteers, Bay of Island DOC staff, and a youth group from Dargaville.
