Tēnā koutou katoa! E mihi ana ki ngā mana whenua o te rohe nei. The Bream Head / Te Whara Conservation Trust acknowledges the mana whenua of the land we are privileged enough to protect. This report covers February and March 2025. Key points:
- In February, the rangers conducted a reserve-wide Vespex wasp control operation.
- February saw the return of volunteers into the Reserve to resume their regular monthly baiting schedule.
- After it being a reasonably quiet December and January for bait uptake, we started to notice an increase in uptake by rodents in February.
- In early March, we installed our two new Cacophony thermal cameras on the north east boundary to test.
- This year's Home Bay community planting day date has been set for Sunday 15 June 2025. In preparation for this day, rangers and volunteers have sprayed out the remaining top block of kikuyu in the Home Bay planting area.
- We have completed our Pest Plant Management Plan, which guides pest plant control in the Reserve.
- BHCT rangers and volunteers report that moth plant die off following the drone spray operation above Dead Horse Bay has been good, and muehlenbeckia/pōhuehue seems to be still healthy underneath too.
